The proceedings of the first Euro-African Congress on the Utilization of Microbial Genetic Resources (RGM EuroAfrica), held in Rabat in May 2026, are now available to the public. This publication builds on the scientific discussions held at the congress and contributes to the dissemination of knowledge on the utilization of microbial genetic resources.
A scientific event
From May 18 to 20, 2026, the National Center for Scientific and Technical Research (CNRST) in Rabat hosted the first edition of the Euro-African Congress on the Utilization of Microbial Genetic Resources (RGM EuroAfrica). Organized in partnership with Morocco’s Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation, the Pasteur Institute, and INRAE, this congress brought together researchers, experts, industry representatives, and public policymakers from Africa and Europe.
The goal of this international conference was to promote scientific and interdisciplinary exchanges on the various aspects of the utilization of microbial genetic resources—from their isolation to their innovative applications—while taking into account regulatory and legal issues in particular.
In a context where microbial resources offer significant opportunities for research and innovation, RGM EuroAfrica provides a forum for dialogue between the scientific community and stakeholders involved in their sustainable development. Hosting this inaugural event in Rabat also helped highlight Morocco’s potential, characterized by the diversity of its terrestrial, marine, and semi-arid ecosystems, as well as by its strategic location between Europe and Africa.
Publication of the conference proceedings
Following this event, the proceedings of RGM EuroAfrica have been published and are now freely available online.
This publication serves as a resource for the scientific community and other interested parties, helping to build on the discussions that took place during the conference and to facilitate the dissemination of knowledge beyond the event.
Public access to the proceedings is part of an effort to share knowledge and support international scientific cooperation. It offers researchers, research institutions, and socioeconomic partners the opportunity to consult the contributions compiled for this first edition.
The TSARA initiative is pleased to have supported this scientific event, which is part of a broader effort to foster cooperation between European and African research communities. Such efforts are essential for advancing research and innovation related to biological resources and their applications.
